Bart Krupp, co-proprietor

Black Bart wines, Krupp Brothers' label for its Rhone-varietal wines and white wines, embody the spirit of the sophisticated gentleman bandit of the late 1800's who robbed dozens of stagecoaches throughout Northern California, including some that passed through our present-day Stagecoach Vineyard. The label also shares its name with Bart Krupp, co-proprietor of Krupp Brothers.

The infamous Black Bart of the late 1800's, whose real name was Charles Boles, was a unique figure in his day. While he was a menace to stagecoach drivers whom he robbed while transporting deliveries of cash and gold, Black Bart's legend grew as he became known for his finely tailored appearance, well-mannered demeanor, and romantic poetry he'd sometimes leave at the scene of his crimes. The outlaw was finally caught, but his impeccable manners earned him early release from jail for good behavior. He then disappeared, never to be heard from again.

Much like its namesake, the legend of Black Bart Syrah continues to grow across the Old West (and across the globe). Co-fermented with a touch Viognier to add elegance and wonderful floral aromas, Black Bart Syrah, Stagecoach Vineyard has proven to be a real crowd pleaser. Syrah Rose and Syrah Port are made in select years.

Three white wines also carry the Black Bart banner, including a Marsanne and a seductive blend of Marsanne, Viognier, and Chardonnay called Black Bart's Bride, named after Black Bart's young, mysterious bride. In 2007, Black Bart's Bounty Chardonnay was added, the very first Chardonnay produced by Krupp Brothers.
